A Day in the Life of a Remelt Operator at Novelis
What does a remelt operator do? At Novelis, the day begins inside the operator booth filling out paperwork, then putting on personal protective equipment before heading out to the ovens — which burn at around 1,600 degrees Fahrenheit. Staying protected from that level of heat is non-negotiable.
A remelt operator is responsible for both quantity and quality. Using heavy equipment, the furnace is kept loaded and the chemistry of the mixture is monitored to ensure it produces quality aluminum. Oven doors are opened as needed so trucks can mix the molten material as it melts down. When needed, the forklift is used to weigh RSI bars before moving them to the ovens, where they await melting.
This field was chosen for its global impact — turning recycled metals back into useful building materials is work worth doing.
