A Day in the Life of a Pit Superintendent at Belden Brick Co.

What does a pit superintendent do? The morning starts with checking the inspection schedule, replying to emails, and updating the calendar. After that, a meeting with department heads, followed by a careful look at clay sample test pieces — checking for the correct colors and shrinkage — and a review of the daily carbon and sulfur test results.

From the office, it's over to the maintenance team to check on any active machine work, then on to the welding shop to confirm that welds are on track for their deadlines. The afternoon is spent outdoors: checking with truck drivers, climbing into the truck, and heading out to the clay mines to make sure enough raw material is staged and ready to keep production rolling at all of Belden Brick's plants.
