A Day in the Life of a Manufacturing Engineer Trainee at Allied Machine & Engineering
What does a manufacturing engineer trainee do in a day? At Allied Machine and Engineering, the day starts with clocking in and meeting with fellow trainees to review the problem orders on the schedule. From there, it's off to the machining station to boot up the equipment and run axis reference calibrations.
A dial indicator is used to check jaw flatness, and CNC settings are updated for each new work order. The CNC machine is monitored throughout its run to catch any issues as they arise. Around midday, there's a check-in with coworkers on parts orders, then back to the station for a team huddle with management to report progress. The afternoon also includes time on the CMM measuring machine for quality assurance checks.
One of the things that makes this role work well is that Allied accommodates college schedules — a real advantage for anyone training on the job while finishing a degree.
