A Day in the Life of a Laser Operator at TuscoMFG

What does a laser operator do? At TuscoMFG, Nick Baker starts with a team huddle to plan the day, then heads to his station and begins moving sheet metal from the loading dock to the laser cutter. The machine runs, finished cut parts are unloaded, and scrap is removed.
This is a role that requires self-direction — working with minimal supervision means holding yourself accountable and getting the work done. Later in the day, a full cart of finished parts gets delivered across the factory to the departments that need them. For heavier pieces, a tow motor handles the distribution. The day ends with a quick cleanup before heading out.
The willingness to work efficiently and effectively opens real room for growth in this career path — and with that growth comes a wider set of skills and capabilities over time.
