A Day in the Life of an Engineering Co-op at Schaeffler Group

What does an engineering co-op do in a day? At Schaeffler Group, co-ops rotate through different departments each term. Currently working with Creo — a computer-aided design program — the day starts with checking emails and then working on a CAD drawing to update dimensions on an extruded rivet.

The Creo charter project involves updating parts in current production to reduce costs. A 3D-printed torque converter is reviewed with a coworker to apply its design principles to a new project. After a break for coffee and lunch, the afternoon is spent with colleagues reviewing recent project models and brainstorming design changes.

Schaeffler provides a strong support system — the work can be challenging, but the team around each co-op makes the difference. Figuring out how things work and finding ways to improve efficiency is what makes this role genuinely engaging.
