A Day in the Life of an EMRA Leader at Novelis

What does an Engineering, Maintenance, Reliability, and Automation (EMRA) leader do in a day? At Novelis, the Rolling Mill EMRA leader starts the morning in the office, catching up on emails and then meeting with the engineering and maintenance team to make sure the plant is running as expected.

The EMRA leader oversees the staff responsible for maintaining and improving all aluminum recycling equipment and facilities at the plant. Moving to the conference room, the latest 3D models are reviewed for parts soon to be integrated into production, and notes are updated on the board. Before heading to the floor, all PPE goes on — safety is the top priority at Novelis.

On the floor, a full walkthrough confirms everything is running smoothly and aluminum quality is being maintained. Engineering here is never routine — every day brings a new challenge. Success in this role takes flexibility, clear thinking under pressure, and the ability to solve problems on the fly.
